I got this article from my email. Since I blog about coffee I think this would be nice to post in my blog. This is to inform especially the pregnant women to know how much caffeine you get from your favorite drinks. According to this article too much caffeine can lead to miscarriage. So if you are pregnant make sure not to drink too much caffeine (beverages). Choose carefully what you drink.

Can You Drink Your Coffee?
– By Becky Hand, Licensed and Registered Dietician

Caffeine is a stimulant that is found in many foods and beverages such as coffee, tea, cocoa, chocolate, and soft drinks. Although caffeine may provide you with your morning boost, it also quickly passes through the placenta to the baby. Animal studies have shown a connection between caffeine intake and birth defects.

However, human studies have been inconclusive. The Food and Drug Administration and most health organizations recommend that pregnant women should discontinue or at least cut down on caffeine. It is okay for pregnant women to wake up and enjoy the coffee. However, a reasonable guideline for daily intake of caffeine is no more that 300 milligrams per day or 2-3 servings. The chart below shows the approximate caffeine content of various foods and beverages.

One study in early 2008, suggests that 200 milligrams of caffeine daily may be too much: Caffeine Linked to Miscarriage. Please discuss your habits with your health care provider.

I was trying to print free coupon that I received from Bath and Body on my email but unfortunately our printers were out of ink. So, my husband and I went to Office Depot, which is just 5 minutes from our place to buy new ink. When we were about to pay, the cashier gave us a coupon for Dunkin Donuts free iced coffee. =)

You Are a Black Coffee

At your best, you are: low maintenance, friendly, and adaptable

At your worst, you are: grumpy and stressed

You drink coffee when: you can get your hands on it

Your caffeine addiction level: high

Have you ever heard the Coffee Alamid or Kape Alamid? It is the most expensive coffee in the world, selling for US$1,000 a kilo. The name of the coffee takes from wild civet locally known as alamid. It is also known as Asian Palm Civet (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus). The coffee undergone extreme process. The alamid eat the berries, but the beans inside pass through their system undigested. It is said that inside the stomach of the alamid, the enzymes add to the coffee’s flavor by breaking down the proteins that give the coffee the bitter taste. After it is being excreted, it will be washed and then roasted and sold. It is found all over the Philippines where the forests are lush, coffee beans grow and civets thrive.

In Indonesia they called Kopi Luwak while inVietnam they have similar type of coffee, called weasel coffee, which is made from coffee bearies which have been reurgitated by local weasels, local version of Asian Palm Civet.

I have not tried the Eight O’clock coffee but they said it is the best coffee to wake up to these days especially the Eight O’clock Coffee 100% Colombian. I thought Eight O’clock is just a fruit juice, like what we have in Philippines.=)

According to Consumer Reports, they tested 19 ground coffees and the Starbucks coffee Columbia medium did not even ranked as one of the top regular coffees. Folger’s and Maxwell House also ranked below Eight O’Clock coffee. It is said to cheaper than Starbucks.

The Dunkin Donuts was ranked a top scorer in the decaf area, second is the Milestone decaf and came third is the Folgers Decaf Medium Roast. It is a sad news for Starbucks coffee lovers because I thought it is one of the best coffee that I know these days. I remembered a lot of my office mates always buy Starbucks frap/coffee in Eastwood. They will use their break time just to buy Starbucks especially if they have that Starbucks journal promo.

I should probably try the Eight O’clock coffee one of these days.=)
